GreenHorn Adventures Manufacturing Process

I have received many inquires over the years on how we make our Fly Tying Tools which include Bobbins, Bodkins and soon to come Hair Stackers.  Now that we have made the decision to offer our services to a larger audience this trend is continuing.

All of the products we offer, specifically for this post topic is our Tools; are Designed and Manufactured in-house.  The primary Machine Tool used is a 1939 South Bend Model A Bench Lathe.  This was purchased new by my Grandfather and I have been using it my entire life as well.  I have over the years designed and added purpose-built tooling and fixturing to allow for the most efficient tool production process.

I have made the choice to not mass produce the tools I offer.   I feel, for me personally and you as a Fly Tyer need the ability to obtain tools that are built for you. I started this adventure back in 1989 while Teaching a Fly Tying Class in Southern Colorado, where one of the participants had a desire to learn Fly Tying but had a prosthetic hand. We worked together to come up with a Bobbin that worked for him and I have been interested in helping others become Fly Tyers ever since. Learning that these customizations can also benefit just about anyone interested in Fly Tying, I made the decision to offer these tools beyond folks that I have had the pleasure meeting in local support I have provided. Having the ability to be 100% in control of the process and materials used, any of our tools can be customized to your need or tying style.   We offer what we feel is a good “standard” model but these are only a starting point.  If they work for you that is great but if you need a slight modification or different size, we can also do this.  Our Tools are made to order so customization is accomplished with little to no additional cost depending on the changes needed.

I look forward to serving the Fly Tying Community, Todd
