El Hefe Bobbin

Description

The design concept for El Hefe (The Boss) was developed in 1989 while teaching a Fly Tying class in Southern Colorado. We had a student that brought his father to class who was also interested in Fly Tying. His father had a prosthetic hand which was able to grab/pinch but unable to manipulate the bobbin to apply pressure to the spool for thread tension. We developed a solution that would keep the thread tension consistent and the idea grew from there.

El Hefe is manufactured from Solid Brass, Industrial Jewels and Tool Steel, no plastic here. As most Bobbins on the market are striving for a light weight item we have taken the opposite approach. We feel Tools should have some mass to them and feel good in the hand and the extra benefit is that the extra mass will provide holding power to your materials while creating a Fly. Our Proprietary Thread Guide Tube incorporates the finest in Industrial Jewel Guides in the Inlet and Outlet of the tube. Using Watchmaker Techniques these Jewels are set into the ends to further protect them and provide for precise alignment. Tension is set by a locking Ball Detent (Click Style) Tension Rod System. This system is easy to adjust, set, and once set will remain in place until you change it. Overall total Length of Standard is 4 inches.

Thread Tube are fully customizable. Some tyers like a really short thread tube for tying those pesky really small flies, while others tying large streamers like the extra reach and a longer tube. The standard length of the tube extending from the Bobbin is ¾ inch.

The Tension Rods are also fully customizable. Based on Tying Style, Hand Size or Physical Need we can make the length to what you need. Some tyers like the Thread Spool to be in the center of the hand while others require the thread spool to be completely clear of the hand. Standard Length of the Tension Rods that hold the Thread Spool is 2 inches.

Thread Tension is already fully adjustable from no tension all the way to thread breaking holding power.
